CCV Students Celebrate MLK Day

Under the organization of CCV Burlington's Student Advisory Board (SAB), CCV students had the opportunity to celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day as a “Day On, Not A Day Off” by performing community service work at local non-profit sites around Burlington. Among the sites they volunteered at were The Salvation Army, The Boys and Girls Club, Spectrum Youth Center, and Recycle North. The students concluded their day with a community dinner at Contois Auditorium in City Hall with live music and a discussion of the life of Dr. King and his commitment to service work.

If you are interested in volunteering, or would like to know more about the Student Advisory Board (SAB), please contact Ian Boyd at ian.boyd@ccv.edu.

Welcome New Students!

Last night, CCV Burlington held its spring 2008 New Student Orientation. More than 80 new students attended and met with staff, faculty, and returning students, took a tour of the buildings, and learned about the many resources available to CCV students. Students were also welcomed to the college by CCV's President, Tim Donovan, and enjoyed a delicious meal courtesy of Donny's New York Pizza in Winooski.

Once again, to all new students, welcome to the Community College of Vermont. Have a great semester!

CCV Celebrates MLK Day 2008

MLK Day 2008 is Monday, January 21. CCV classes will not be held on this day allowing us the opportunity to contemplate, celebrate and continue the struggle toward equal rights for all. There are many ways to be involved. For a statewide calendar of events, click here.

In commemoration of MLK Day, CCV Burlington’s Student Advisory Board is organizing a service event on January 21. Working with the Americorps program and local non-profits throughout Chittenden County, CCV students will have the opportunity to honor MLK’s legacy through volunteer work. We will be meeting in our 119 Pearl St. building at 11:00 AM to talk about King’s life and commitment to community service before heading down to City Hall at 12:00 PM. Students will be able to choose from a number of volunteer opportunities addressing many social issues. The day will conclude with a free community dinner with live music and entertainment at 5:00 PM in Contois Auditorium at City Hall. Please join us to meet some new folks and commemorate the life of one of America’s greatest human rights leaders the way he would have wanted you too, as a “Day On, Not a Day Off.” For more information, contact Ian Boyd at ian.boyd@ccv.edu.
