CCV to offer free business courses for spring 2014

CCV to offer free business courses for spring 2014

The Community College of Vermont will begin offering free three-credit business courses for the spring 2014 semester.  The courses will be offered at the College’s Center for Online Learning and at CCV’s Morrisville, Rutland, St Albans, Upper Valley, and Winooski academic centers. CCV’s free business classes are funded through a grant from the US Department of Labor’s Trade Adjustment Assistance Community College and Career Training initiative (TAACCCT).

The courses are open to all interested business people or community members seeking to gain new skills or to advance current skills. In addition, area businesses may also contract with CCV for a free, college-level supervision course for their employees.

These classes are part of CCV’s Applied Business Practices and Digital Marketing programs, which prepare students to work in the fast-paced, rapidly evolving business settings of the 21st century. Students learn current and relevant practices in change management, systems thinking, project management, and financial literacy. Credits earned for the successful completion of these classes can be used toward an Associate Degree in numerous CCV programs or may be transferrable to other accredited institutions.

Courses to be offered in the spring include*:
·       Working in a Professional Environment
·       Introduction to Internet Marketing
·       Introduction to Web Analytics
·       Search Engine Marketing & Optimization
·       Principles of Supervision
·       Working in a Professional Environment
·       Storytelling through Media
·       Professional Financial Literacy
·       Health & Safety in the Work Environment

*Not all courses will be available at all locations, please visit ccv.edu for specific course locations.

“We are so pleased to offer these free classes to the Upper Valley community,” said Marianne Shaughnessy, the coordinator of academic services overseeing business, accounting and workforce development opportunities at the Upper Valley academic center.  “Our hope is that once students are introduced to our innovative campus and high-caliber faculty, they will be inspired to complete a college degree and help advance their careers.”
