CCV Faculty Art Exhibit this Friday!

Mary Johnson, our very own Photography I / Digital Photography I instructor is having an exhibition entitled “Constructed Spaces” at 215 College Gallery, here in Burlington. The opening is this Friday, from 5-8. What better way to kick off your Friday than enjoying some eye-catching black and white photography?

With quirky lawn ornaments, gently waving laundry, rambling vegetable
gardens and perfectly sculpted shrubbery, Constructed Spaces explores

of each occupant's home and personality.

CCV featured in the St. Albans Messanger

On January 10th, Emerson Lynn published an editorial in the St. Albans Messanger praising CCV's growth and innovation.

Calling All CCV Students for MLK Day!

In commemoration of MLK Day, CCV Burlington is organizing its annual service event on Monday, January 18, 2010. Working with the Americorps program and local non-profits throughout Chittenden County, CCV students will have the opportunity to honor MLK’s legacy through volunteer work.

We will be meeting in our 119 Pearl St. building at 11:15 AM for an early lunch and to talk about King’s life and commitment to community service before heading down to City Hall at 12:00 PM. Students will be able to choose from a number of volunteer opportunities addressing many social issues. The day will conclude with a free community dinner with live music and entertainment at 5:00 PM in Contois Auditorium at City Hall. Please join us to meet some new folks and commemorate the life of one of America’s greatest human rights leaders the way he would have wanted you too, as a “Day On, Not a Day Off.” For more information, contact Ian Boyd at ian.boyd@ccv.edu.

CCV Students in Costa Rica

They've arrived!

That's right, the fall 2009 Intercultural Communications study abroad class left on Friday morning for 10 days in Costa Rica.

Moving Toward Sustainability--Recap

Jeannie William's Moving Toward Sustainability class recently presented their semester-long LYCAH, “Leave Your Car At Home” project to the CCV/Burlington community.

The class worked on projects that look ahead to CCV’s move to downtown Winooski, offering alternative transportation options to the CCV community that would help decrease the numbers of single drivers in single cars parking in Winooski, and encourage a greener approach to transportation to the new facility.

Student project highlights:

• Student Colin Miller worked the challenge into his daily life by not driving for 7 weeks. He kept a journal of his daily transportation and presented an analysis of his savings, both in money he spent on gas and parking, and in the pounds saved from his personal carbon footprint. Colin’s challenge was all the more difficult, as he commutes from rural Brookfield.
  
  
• Samantha Boymer and Tracy Simonds created a new Ride Board for CCV. The Ride Board is already available in the CCV student portal and students statewide and many of the students in the class developed ideas for CCV to use in promoting the new service.
  
  
• Sarah Kresock presented a new bike share program for Burlington, based on programs used in cities around the world. For a modest fee, people would be able to pick up bicycles stationed in convenient locations around town and use them for daily transportation.
  
  
• Michael La Moy presented a full case for using the CCTA bus system. Mike showed that once you work the bus schedule into your life, it is a safe, convenient, and planet-friendly approach to daily transportation. The CCTA bus system will continue to be a real convenience for CCV students when the new facility opens in Winooski. The bus stops right at CCV’s front door.
